85mm: 1 prime and 2 zooms, center.

At 85mm, I compared the following lenses:
Minolta 85mm f/1.4
Sony 70-200 f/2.8 G
Minolta 24-105 f/3.5-4.5

The 85mm is one of the lenses I like most. It is as if it had a split personality: wide open, the image is very soft with just the right amount of glow to make it a perfect portrait lens; closed to f/5.6, the lens is tack sharp. The lens has been superseded with a Carl Zeiss design in the current Sony line-up, but the venerable Minolta design is still a wonderful lens.

f/4 (4.5)

f/5.6

f/8

f/11

At f/1.4-f/2.8, depth of field is a bit too small. I would need to move to another test range: sometimes the horizon is in focus, sometimes the overhead lines are in focus...
